Veterans Day is special to me. My husband Bob was a true veteran, and he would participate in various ceremonies whenever possible. Our daughter, a music teacher in an elementary school, coordinates a program there. They invite veterans to come for breakfast, and the children do artwork portraying the various armed service organizations. Then they sing patriotic songs. In 2016 she asked if the Honor Bell could be present, and it was; it was an absolutely beautiful addition to the program. All of the children even got to touch the bell, and I hope they will remember that activity for a long time.

Nancy Abbott donated her husband's Coast Guard belt buckle and dog tags to become part of the Honor Bell when it was cast in 2016. Robert Abbott Jr.'s artifacts were included with those from 11 other deceased Colorado veterans to be included in the Honor Bell. You can read more about Abbott and his artifacts here.
